‘Tireless' police volunteer dies
Only civilian awarded Meritorious Service Medal.

S. R. Bryant, Jr. died in his Edmond home on Saturday, January 13, 2007. He was born on November 14, 1918 in Idabel, OK to S. R. and Lulu Bryant.

 He grew up in Idabel and McAlester and attended McAlester High School. He worked for Exxon for 36 years. During that time, he volunteered for the American Heart Association teaching CPR classes.

After retirement, he continued to volunteer for the American Heart Association and expanded his volunteer work to include the Oklahoma Christian University Booster Club, and 15 years with the Oklahoma City Police Department-Crime Stoppers. He was preceded in death by Maxine, his wife of 60 years.

He leaves behind daughter Emma Magee and her husband Don, their children Julie and Jeff Bryant and their sons Reed and Ryan, Ed and Stevie Magee; daughter Diane Gordon and husband Larry, their children Darren and Molly Gordon and son Arren, Jana and Jeremy Hornbuckle, Stephanie and Luke Christian, Katie Gordon and Tracy Gordon; son Kinney Bryant and his wife Joan and their children Cullen and Laura Bryant, Caleb Bryant and Chelsea Bryant; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

As a Christian husband and father, we can say, 'See you later,' and not 'Goodbye.' In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oklahoma Christian University, PO Box 11000, OKC, OK, 73136 or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 3908 N. Peniel Ave, Suite 330, Bethany, OK 73008.

Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Mon., Jan. 22, 2007 at Memorial Road Church of Christ with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
